Hi! *cough, choke, strangle, die*

...okay, maybe I'm not that sick, but I am sadly still recovering, and will be for the next five-ish weeks or so, if my doctor is to be believed. Stupid viruses trying to make my spleen explode and ruin my liver. Bleh. Bleh, I say!

Anyway, it's been awhile, but among about a million other things I still have lying around waiting to work on posts for, like the Year One review, the Catwoman #2 review, a new Copycats post and another Think Like Selina, there's a new two page Catwoman 'origin' comic created exclusively for Journeys to help celebrate their DC Comics themed Converse line that I am obligated to post.

The origin glosses over the vast majority of Selina's history, of course, but then you can't really expect a two page comic to do as thorough a job as the complete definitive origin of Catwoman that took nine months and more caffeine than I care to think about to bring into being. Still, it's cute.

Even if much of it does fly directly in the face of the current DC canon that we're supposed to all be taking totally seriously despite the complete lack of editorial continuity rassafrassafricken-make-up-your-bloody-minds-already *grumble, mutter, grumble, grumble, fistshake*

Without further ado:

You can read the rest of the comic behind the cut.

If you want, you can download the PDF for yourself, which includes numerous other DC character origins at this link, and I'll save my ranting about how so much pre-Crisis is apparently canon now even though it doesn't really work at all aaaargh for a more opportune time.

In the meantime, I'm going to go take a nap, and then maybe try and get up later to put the finishing touches on my next post: Whip Cracking: The Fine Art of Not Hitting Yourself in the Face. Or maybe I'll sleep some more. Being sick sucks.

Until then, I remain your humble, sickly servant, Dr. Von Fangirl. You know the drill: same cat time, same cat zzzzZzzzzzZzzzz....

I love how cheerful she is! She's also really sexy, without that ridiculous LOOK HOW SEXY quality we've seen lately. And knows who Batman is, if she's seen him with the mask off and isn't an idiot!

This is really charming and I like it.

Evangeline is using Harvey for a pillow.

Even Batman is ticklish!

...well, actually, no I'm sure he's not. He probably had ticklishness trained out of him. I imagine a young Bruce Wayne, eager to harden his every defense, rigging up some kind of machine with feather dusters to help train the ticklishness out of him.

I also imagine Alfred walking in at a most inopportune moment only to discover what happened to his good feather dusters.

...my imagination is odd after a night of insomnia, I apologize.

I am kind of in love with how thrilled she is to be on the run from Batman in those first two panels of them together.

I find this charming too. Really well done for only two pages. :]

Hope you feel better soon!

It is pretty cute. I think my favorite part is the boxing with Ted Grant, because I've just always loved growly, grumpy Wildcat playing mentor. :D

And I'm feeling better already, thanks!

I'm feeling better already, thanks to so many bowls of virtual chicken soup that have been sent my way since I got sick. Thanks for helping to tip the scales! :D

So, I wandered over here from about_faces, and in short, this blog is amazing and so are you. I'm not even a particularly big fan of Catwoman (although Brubaker has made me warm to her a lot), but I am virtually sending LUUURVE to this blog right now. The intelligence and sensitivity you put into tackling Catwoman's character, who is so often reduced to SEX APPEAL and nothing else (or, it's people moaning on about how Miller ruined her... whut?) is wonderful and engaging - I particularly enjoyed your posts on Catwoman 1 and how godawful and offensive it is. If I sound creepy here, I'm sorry.

Slightly more on topic, the panel where she's running from Batman in her Golden Age costume brings me so much joy. SO. MUCH. JOY.

When I read this comment the first time, I want you to know I actually blushed a bit. Thank you so very much! And you don't sound creepy at all, so no worries, I promise. :D

If you like the place, I honestly do hope you'll stick around and hang out more! Really, the more the merrier.

Well, I could post it to you, but I'm tempted to turn up in whereveryoulive wearing a Long, Suspicious-Looking Coat with many, many packets of tea on the inside. If I can illegally get a jar of honey into South Africa, supplying you with Earl Grey will be child's play! Plus, I don't get nearly enough opportunities to act like a black-marketeer from a cartoon.

This is the back-up account for what I hope will be the Ultimate Catwoman Fan Blog--Dr. Von Fangirl on LiveJournal. You should go check it out over there. I much prefer the original article.
